Editorial standards
These are the rules every page on the site follows. They exist so that a reader, or anyone quoting us, can tell where each statement comes from and how current it is.
Sourcing
- Statements about an app's features, plans and prices come from the company's own website, help pages, pricing pages and store listings.
- Figures that only the company can know, such as the size of a food database or the number of nutrients tracked, are attributed to the company ("per Cronometer", "the company says").
- We do not invent measurements, test results or user reviews, and we do not describe hands-on testing we did not do.
- If a company's pages do not document something, we say "Not confirmed" or show a dash. We do not infer that a feature is missing because a page is silent about it.
Dates and prices
- Every award, scorecard and comparison shows when it was judged or last reviewed.
- Prices are in US dollars as published, with the check date where we have one. Where an app prices by country, we point to the store listing instead of quoting a number that may not apply to you.
- Pages are never back-dated. A page's published date is the day it first went live.
Writing
- The answer comes first. Each award and comparison states its result in the opening lines.
- Every app keeps its genuine strengths. Category awards exist so that specialists are recognised for what they do best.
- Guides are written to work with any app and do not recommend a product.
- Health statements are general and conservative. We point readers to a clinician wherever a decision depends on their health.
Review by a registered dietitian
Every page is reviewed before publication by Josh Robertson, RD, a registered dietitian, and shows the reviewer's name. The review covers nutrition and health statements, the advice on who each app suits and how the judging criteria are applied. When a page's nutrition content changes, it is reviewed again before it goes live.
Links
Each product name links to the company's official homepage the first time it appears on a page. There are no affiliate links and no paid placements on the site, and it carries no advertising.
Corrections and updates
Factual errors are corrected as soon as we find them and listed on the corrections page with the date and what changed. Routine updates, such as a new price or a feature change found in a monthly check, are recorded in the review log.
Use of software tools
We use software to help draft and check pages, build the tables and keep the site consistent. Editors decide the categories, marks and results and are responsible for every page.
